    Gaze into my crystal ball.....

This is what I see them doing.
    1. You will see systems cut budget support for sports programs middle school. WSFC did that years ago and some schools started some programs back up and suppoerted them. But I fear as systems cut into the school budgets they to will fall. So for the ones that have middle school sports say bye..bye..
    2. I see systems limt number of games. I may even come do to confeance only. No JV transportation. This will far back on parents that are put every extra dollar in the tank.
    3. Less attended sports will lose dollar support. That is if they are getting any at all.
    4. Increase gate. This one will be the down fall. They will increase the gate to make more money. The thing is that less will attend. Therefore less money.

This is what they should do.

    1. Football (limit rosters) JV maybe no non conferance games.
    2. Combine sports. This would really work in the case of baseball & softball. Having double headers and both playing at the same school.
    3. Market the sport as a venue at a discounted price. Reduce the price for student admissions. Sell the High School sport program to the community. Family night events things such as that. With and increase of fans to the games you would have more revenue for the total program.
    4. Wake up the AD's, Staff and parents. The biggest problem I see that will probaly never go away from is the lack of buy in. Everyone wants their sport to receive the biggest cut. You have AD's and staff that play the school politics like no others. This has got to go. Everyone wants the position but once there. Same old same old. This is not true in some cases. But in a lot.
    5. This is worst case. Dropping all JV programs and sports that do not at least play for themselves.

Raising the needed, extra dollars via fund raising events such as; golf tournaments, raffles, sidewalk type sales and corporate sponsor involvement - (add your own creative thinking here.)

Many schools are already doing things such as this but it takes a diligent effort from the boosters, the school, and the community.

IMO, the problem will be laid in the lap of those that are usually left with footing the bill when all other funding runs dry.........you and me.

But in the end, it all depends on how badly we want these things for our children. Are we willing to pay extra.....even when we dont entirely agree with the reasons why? Life aint always fair. Some schools will definitely suffer due to a lack of all the above mentioned circumstances. Some will march on.

I don't think this is a "chicken little" situation. I believe it is a serious situation that will cause serious decisions.

Uky brought up a good point. School boards will make decisions based on the entirety of schools, not the have's and have nots.(good booster programs vs poor one's)

    endowment

Remember that little surcharge of $1 that goes to the endowment fund? That fund has grown through the years and is approaching an obscene amount. The NCHSAA might have to dip into it a little sooner than they thought. The whole purpose of this thing was to eliminate "pay to play" sports.... it sounds like that is where we are going....
