Did they change the rule this year? I know a pitcher was released from Western Carolina and went to NCSU and did not have to sit out a year. Unless it changed between last year and now a player does not have to sit out a year if the coach signs the release.

99% of the time if a coach does not release someone, onve you go to the AD it is resolved. Most of the time a player doesn't get a release because of personal conflict. For whatever reason a coach wants to punish the kid. But like I said, the AD usually can smooth that problem out.

    You'd better check again

Your info on the rule change is not correct. Players who are released CAN play without sitting out. There has been no change. Faith Sutton was not granted a release from UNC. I believe she appealed but, in a rare circumstance the appeal was denied.

    correct

Div 1 & 2 must be released by the school.....Rare occasions where it is not granted.... most likely reason not to release would be to another conference or regional school. ( Faith's situation) As info, most conferences have rules that make the player sit a year, if they transfer to another conference school....

    D3 has a self-release.
Allows player to release herself, without original school's permission.

Wndmllr, while she is sitting out for the yr, is she allowed to practice with team ? Sad situation, but Carolina is loaded with good pitching.

    Moving Up

How does the NCAA rules apply to D-2/3 athletes that want to transfer to a D-1 school after a year or two in their school. I would also ask about transfers if the head coach leaves, it is my understanding that an athlete can transfer if their head coach leaves with-out having to set out a year.
