The ACC will play its 2009 baseball tournament at Boston's Fenway Park. Any chance this would be a factor in recruiting and selection of colleges by players that may be deciding between the ACC & other conferences? So guys that are freshmen this year (2006, as well as 07, 08, & 09) at the ACC schools would play at Fenway as seniors if they stay around that long. Same question for this year's freshmen, would it be a factor in going into the amateur draft after their junior year?

In my opinion, it'll have virtually no effect on recruiting; as players tend to choose based on a combination of factors...the majority of them a good deal more substantial than where one tournament's going to be played. And NO college player intent upon playing professionally after his junior season is going to allow it to influence his decision.

Regarding the conference's decision: No park deserves the love and adulation it receives more than Fenway. It is a true shrine of baseball, and I love attending games there...

Boston Red sox games, that is. You know, when they put 45,000 bodies in the seats on a regular basis.

The problem with the decision is that the large majority of college baseball fans don't travel; and you certainly aren't going to get a turnout of any size for the tournament.

Boston College attracted approximately 300 fans to their field when they played FSU and Georgia Tech this season; so, it's not going to be Boston College fans who fill a lot of seats (The way Florida State fans do currently in Jacksonville.)

Sure, it'll be a thrill for the players to play in Fenway; but, it'll also be more than a bit of a letdown when the players look up and see 1,000-2,000 fans engulfed by 45,000 empty seats. It's a very real thrill for them today, as the tournament is filling JAcksonville's minor league park (10,000 seats). Not to mention the financial cost of carting 8 (Southern) teams to Boston and the lost revenue compared to a full stadium in Jacksonville.

Let's hope the TV camera doesn't pan into the seats. It'll be a major embarrassment for the conference.

I agree Prep. It needs to be in a central area....like Knights Castle :D

I know they played there before and it was marginally attended, but I believe college baseball and particular, ACC baseball, has greatly improved the interest it had when they played at the Castle.

Good luck to Woodie on Thursday....and against NC State...sweeeeet!!!
