In general, what are things that need to happen to turn around a traditional losing HS program into a consistent winner?

Do you think that in many losing programs, the players get complacent to losing ?

in my opinion you need a good feeder program with good fundamental coaches that are willing to spend time with each player teaching and developing fundamental skills along with situational skills. also the parents need to want the little extra to help enable their kids to develop to their full potential. but, at the young ages it still needs to be more on the fun side so not to get discouraged.

Turning it around and being a consistent winner

Having a great feeder system is awesome. But you do not controll that. You could have a great feeder system that works with you or you might have middle school coaches that do not want to work with you or are not quality coaches.

To me you build a consistent winner and turn a program around by building a program and not a team. Three month coachs and three months players within that "program" will never equate into a consistent winner. What I believe you must do is set a HIGH STANDARD for your players. You must make playing for the program SPECIAL. Players must understand that it takes a commitment from them that goes way beyond the three months that the season is played. And of course the coaches must be willing to make even more of a commitment. Why do some programs seem to win even when the talent level is down from previous years? Why do some programs seem to always develop players? If you build a program first and stick to your fudemental beliefs the players will buy into it. You might not be a state contender every year. But you will win on a consistent basis.
