    West is a scrappy bunch of young players who have won 8 of their last 12 games in a very tough NPC. They had to defeat #2 seed Moorsville on Monday, just to get in the playoffs. They have matured into a pretty good team as the season has progressed and you definately could have gotten an easier draw. You want to put them away early and not let them hang around. Their best player is the SS Philip Micalat. He is batting .377 on the year and has 18 SB; He is a very slick fielder. They don't have a lot of power. Their leading homerun hitter has 2, but no one else has more than 1. Their pitching is decent with their two best being Jake Koontz and Zack Simpson. Koontz usually throws the big games but he is 3-5 with a ERA around 2.50; Simpson is 6-2 with an ERA around 3.00;

    ^^Some good info here but here's some more that might be helpful.

    West started out the year 1-5 in the rugged NPC and a lot felt this would be a rebuilding year. However, they have turned it around by going 8-4 over the next 12 to finish 9-9 in the conference. It seems the season really turned around when they went to Columbus County for an Easter tournament and won it. Neither of their pitchers (not sure who they'll throw) are going to overpower you, and both will be most effective if they can throw their off speed stuff for strikes. Koontz, as stated before, is best when his fastball is running and sinking. As for their sticks, West will not feature a lot of power, but this is a team that will try to do all of the little things right. For example, they executed several bunts the other night in a surprise victory over South Rowan. All in all, West is playing really well right now considering they are a 5 seed.

    Also may want to mention that West Rowan is "WELL-COACHED". David Wright is simply one of the best baseball coaches in this area, in helping his team find ways to win ballgames. There may be more experienced, better communicators, better whatevers around, but Coach Wright makes very few mistakes during the course of a ballgame, and he's just got that intangible that many don't have in that he "knows how" to win. He makes a lot of good decisions during the course of about any ballgame.

    Coach Wright is definately a good coach. You have to be to take a team that got of to a miserable start and finish as strongly as they did. I think West could pull this on off.
