West Rowan 82 Kings Mountain 51 [and why KM fans are the worst]

A total ass-whipping of the Nth magnitude. The first quarter went pretty much as advertised: very physical, great defense on both sides --- West made a lot of mistakes early on that I thought were attributed more to their being tight rather than KM's full-court press.

In the second quarter West started to pull away with a few follow slams and a few KM misses from point blank range. Instead of forcing turnovers, the KM defense began mounting up fouls. Just before the half, Junior Hairston brought the house down soaring from the right-side rafters with massive earth-shaking monster jam that had even the KM fans gasping for air.
(it was nice to see some REAL DUNKS after sitting through those weak efforts offered up by TC Roberson in the opener). WR by 12 at the half.

The third quarter delivered more of the same with Dunks 5 and 6 coming courtesy of Durrell White (Durrell earned many style points for his running reverse-dunk). KM's offense continued to misfire and their defense began to self-destruct. As KM continued thier substitutions and full-court press their plan to tire out WR back-fired as the more-athletic Falcons seemed to get stronger as the Mountaineers began to unravel. This allowed West guard TJ Gaither to turn on the after-burners and take the ball to the hole strong finishing with a couple of nice acrobatic layups. WR by 22 after 3 quarters. Many KM fans began to file out quickly. The KM fans that remained continued their verbal assaults towards West's players and the coaching staff. (WHY? WHY would the NCHSAA locate the KM fan section right behind the West Rowan bench? IDIOTS!!!)

The fourth saw the lead stretch to 39 as Kings Mountain started to melt down and their fans continued their mass exodus.
With three minutes left Gurley inserted the third string and JVs as KM unbelievably continued their full-court press. What a joke. With 3 seconds left Kings Mountain dunks on our JV team to cut the score to 31 and the few faithful KM fans that remained exploded euphorically as their team finally gave them something to cheer about. The game ends and a loyal Kings Mountain fan runs down to the court to call Coach Gurley a "dick". (what class)

If that wasn't enough KM fans then start a fight on their way out of the gym that sent many police and security scampering to break it up. Unbelievable.

Ironically at this time last year I was singing praises about the enthusiastic bunch of fans from Gastonia Ashbrook, how they stayed and gave their guys a standing-O even after they lost. Compare this with the Kings Mountain fans who "got the hell out of Dodge" as soon as it was apparent their team was going to lose. KM fans give the words "poor-sportsmanship" new meaning. You guys did much to embarass yourselves and your school tonight.

 

Earlier today I wished KM luck in their game with West Rowan...mostly to show solidarity with a conference member. But I'm not surprised at how the Mountie fans acted tonight. You should try attending a game down in their little closet-sized gymnasium! They do talk a lot of trash, too, wherever they go.

Anyway, best of luck to the Falcons against Roberson! I'm sick of Asheville teams!

Nice website!!! For some reason we never get to play you guys even though both teams are in the playoffs every year. It looked as if we were on a collision course with Hickory in 1999 when the Tornadoes entered the Regionals undefeated and Will Johnson and Scooter Sherrill were playing for HHS and WRHS respectively. The "big game " never materialized due to an upset by............the TC Roberson Rams...........
