Final week of regual season for some, conference tournaments for others, both in some cases. You can post results here if you do not have a thread for specific conference tournament results.

Gritty win for the Sabres last night. They kept their composure and stayed patient for their opportunity. Then when the opportunity presented itself they took advantage and broke the game open. First, down 4-2 in the bottom of the 5th, SM took advantage of several miscues (including two routine fly balls never seen by the RFer-->the lighting was brutal over there) to tie up the game. Then, in the bottom of the 6th a bases clearing triple followed three consecutive walks. The Sabres would need no more, though they did put oned additional insurance run. I like how this SM team plays. They do whatever it takes to win the game (for example, they laid down 3 beautiful bunts, including a perfectly executed squeeze play). They just kept fighting and chipping away until they got their chance, then they made the most of it.

I have to say (although I'm partial) I'm very impressed with this young team. They finished the regular season in 3rd Place in the SW4A with a record of 15-8 when everyone thought they'd finish last. Last night they started out with 2 Freshman, 4 Sophmores, 2 Juniors and 1 Senior in the field on defense.

And they had 4 wins over Observer Sweet 16 teams this year. Providence, Charlotte Catholic, West Meck and Charlotte Country Day.

This team is very impressive and dangerous NOW. Aggressive, unselfish, team-oriented, focused and driven. Coach Tuscan has built a personality for the team that should be a big concern for anyone they face. This year - terror alert orange, next year DEAD RED. Look for Koch, Kennedy and Oliver to get a lot of ink over the next couple of years.
