Now if this does not count red shirted players. With no changes of the fall roster looks like they have room for only a couple of new players.

Yep, UNC must definitely stop this willy nilly process of signing players.

The staffs of the nation's top college baseball programs walk a constant "tightrope" when it comes to the recruitment of players. Inevitably, some number of each year's entering class will be considered potentially high draft picks coming out of high school. The "trick" is trying to identify the most talented players who seem positively inclined to attend college. Such was the case with Andrew Miller, Daniel Bard , and Craig Corrado in UNC's 2003-2004 class; while this year's entering class includes two top 5 round draft picks, Matt Harvey and Nate Striz. On the other hand, two players from those who committed to enter this year decided to turn pro out of high school. Despite that, "Baseball America" rated this year's entering class the nation's 4th best (The publication waits until after the deadline for signing pro contracts to assess the strength of entering classes.)

For those of you who seem concerned about the numbers (and to reinforce One Putt's point), I can assure you that the coaching staff is making every effort to sign the number of players that replenishes the roster without over-committing the scholarship pool or the roster limitations. However, even though they take the responsibility very seriously, they're still having to deal with factors completely outside of their control that will always make it an inexact practice.

Football has this same problem to a lesser degree. Football coaches worry about losing players to grades and such more so than the pros. IMO, it's tougher in baseball trying to manage who is coming and who is not. I guess it's a nice problem to have. The best programs have this problem more than others. unc should consider it a compliment.
