Don't let parents attend games, start paying overtime like everyone else in this country gets, and keep the boosters away. That would be a start.

Booster clubs can be a sticky thorn. The more money, the more power. The more power...well you know (puppets and marrionets)

I'm trying to promote discussion...only thing I'm hinting, well, that's not true....what I am saying is that coaches are grossly underpaid for their contributions in helping develop a young student athlete.

But this thread is more than just about money. It's about the shortage of coaches the state is facing and what can be done about it? Any other suggestions?

    :applause: Nuff Ced,

Been coaching youth sports for about 12 years, AAU, USSSA, Rec ball, etc. You are right on with having to please the parents, especially if they have forked over their hard earned money. It's tough enough to please them with AAU & USSSA, let alone having to please them when they get to HS. Keep the booster club away.

It is definitely not about the money. I make less than $1200 for baseball here with 10 years as the Head Coach. To compare that with other areas, I made $1200 as a JV Baseball coach at New Hanover in 1990 while I was student teacing there.

I definitely think that mixing booster clubs and coaches supplements is a bad idea. I will say this, if it were about the money, I would have left the profession long ago. We all know this when we go into this profession. BTW, if you are in it for the money, then just how committed are you to the real needs of your players? Just a thought...

BTW... have any of you guys completed the National Boards process? I have started on it and would love to chat with any coach that has done it, especially if you are a Social Studies Teacher.
