Just when you think Tim McCarver couldn't get any worse...he does! Here is an amazing run for Timmy last night during a brief period in top of an inning during the Yankees- Angels game:

    • described a curveball in the dirt as a 97 footer, then and 87 footer, then a 57 footer (acknowledged his fumble on that one)
    • described a wild pitch that hit Molina in the shin guard as very painful even though the shin guards block the bulk of the direct impact. Molina recoiled in pain as the ball deflected and struck him in the side of the face just under the mask (clearly seen on replay). McCarver stuck with trying to explain why Molina's knee was hurting when it was apparent the deflection to the jaw area was causing Molina to recoil.
    • Texiera makes a great recovery on a throw to first base from Molina on a dropped third strike..the play was close and the runner was actually safe. The replay clearly shows the umpire positioned in the infield dirt and his view of the ball being caught by Texiera in a full stretch toward Molina in foul territory is totally obscured by Texiera's body and the fast closing runner. No comment about the umpire being out of position to make the judgement call
    • Texiera makes another great stretch and dig on a throw from A Rod and Burnett charges off the mound with a fist pump toward Texiera and the replay shows Burnett exclaiming "UNBELIEVABLE"...a comment directed toward Texiera's outstanding first base defensive prowess...instead of focusing on that burst of competitive support for a teammates great play, Timmy blathers on about something of no interest.
    • Said Burnett's curveball was "very good" and tried to explains its' goodness as justification for his wild pitches. In my book, very good curveballs are not wild pitches.....they may have very good break, but they are not good pitches.
    • Tried to say Burnett had a compact delivery, when he is one of the most wide-angled slingers in baseball....then tried to back-pedal on that one and made no sense.
This all happened in a matter of a few minutes....what are the Fox execs thinking? Joe Buck must cringe often..it's a shame he is paired with such a moron. I know we have had Tim McCarver rants before, but sometimes it's just too much.

...and he went on a rant to explain that Aybar NEVER touched 2nd base in his previous 2 double plays after the one the umpire called safe---only to report later that the guys in the booth researched the previous double plays and Aybar touched the bag each time.

I don't believe Timmy understands how embarrassing he is after announcing every game. However, I do believe the Fox network execs are laughing in their booths thinking that have the new version of Harry Carey....I wish McCarver had retired after Deon poured ice water on him...that would have been fitting

That's why I mute the TV and look at the boxscore on the internet while the game is going on. Alot of the announcers are annoying. The NFL pre-game shows are getting to be unwatchable. You have all these former players and coaches trying to one-up each other with analysis and predictions. And each network has their insiders, of course.

That's what they don't get; we laughed with Harry. They don't realize that our laughter is not with McCarver

I was watching a feature on MLB Network and Bob Costas was interviewing Bob Gibson and Tim McCarver, speaking mostly about the pennant-winning Cardinals of 1967 and 1968. Those were the first years I can remember watching the World Series closely and I have fond memories of hurrying home from school to catch the last half of those games versus the Red Sox in '67 and then the Tigers in '68.

McCarver was telling about being a young catcher and having the manager asking him to go out to the mound and to try to slow Gibson's pace down a little bit. As McCarver started toward the mound he ran into one of Gibson's famous glares and Gibson aborted the visit by saying, "What in the hell do you want? The only thing you know about pitching is that it's hard to hit. Get your ass back behind the plate"

Gibson was amazing and he is fascinating now when being interviewed. He said his famous glare was really just him having trouble seeing the signals. McCarver is more tolerable when being interviewed....it's just his tendency to state the obvious as if it is some super keen insight and to put out so much mis-information as an analyst that is so painful.

I have been saying for years this guy is horrible, I just can not stand to listen. Really glad that I am neither a Yankee or Angels fan, so I have not watched much of this series.
