If the moderators will allow and because there is so little local coverage in our area (Charlotte) of high school baseball, I'd like to issue a challenge to you fellow posters to post newspaper-quality pre-season reports on your favorite team in this thread. I commit to doing the Myers Park team and to submitting my preview after the team is announced on Monday, Feb. 21.

Here are my suggested simple ground rules: the posts can be opinionated and speak to team question marks, but everything about individual players and coaches must be positive (or certainly at least not negative), and each player who makes the varsity team should be mentioned in the post if possible to give recognition to all the guys making the team.

With these reports we can have more familiarity with each other's teams and players as we move into the season, particularly the newcomers who we may not know well yet.

You have plenty of time to do your homework. Here's your chance to let out the sportswriter inside that you've been wanting to let loose and to give your favorite team players some pre-season props!

Great idea! Maybe you can give a trophy to the best, most politically correct team preview. To the rest, make sure they get a certificate of participation.

I think everyone is waiting to see who has the courage to go first !!!!

Rosters are going to be announced at different times for different schools. I think some will be set by tomorrow afternoon. It's really a good idea, but it grates on the natural sandbagger in me.

Sandbagging on this web site has an honorable and noble past and is well respected. I'm sure that Braves would be honored to post about South Mecklenburg, but when you read his post, it's going to sound like they will be lucky to win 3 games this season....  When you read mine, you'll believe that all of the teams in the Meca-8 should end up with identical 7-7 in-conference records.

I'll do what I can for Cary HS. I believe their roster will be set mid-week and I plan on heading to Cary to see them practice some and check them out this weekend during an intersquad scrimmage.

After today's scrimmages and workouts, I hope you guys are preparing those previews. Myers Park preview to come on Tuesday; sloppy intra-squad scrimmage today.

I'll follow the North Meck/South Meck format -- sandbagging for three paragraphs, followed by real preview for a few paragraphs.

Speaking of North and South -- that March 1 matchup has to be the highlight of the early season. North, with its Division 1 pitching staff, against South and its Division 1 hitters; I've already put in for my TBR press pass. :apopcorn: You think they'll let me sit up there in that nice Bagdome press box with Craig "the voice of the Sabres" Borden :singer: ?
