    In the wake of their success in Omaha, UNC's recruiting has taken aim at the nation's elite prospects.
    They have landed the top two high school prospects in the country as well as the big lefty from South Caldwell.
    Hot stove draft projections are always a crapshoot, but it could go something like this in the first round;
    UNC recruit Matt Harvey #4-Pittsburg
    UNC recruit Rick Porcello #7-Milwaukee
    UNC recruit Madison Bumgarner #30-NY Yankees
    I don't see any of these guys wearing Carolina blue.
    As far as current Tar Heels, I thought it was interesting that 4 of them made Baseball America's top 100 collegiate prospects, but Chad Flack was not one of them. What's up with that ?

    I'll make a bold prediction. First, I believe the order of draftees is probably accurate:

    - Harvey will be the 1st HS player drafted. He has an incredible arm, but is not as polished as Porcello.

    - He would be my 1st selection of HS players. He has it all. Talent, poise and control

    - Madison will definitely be a 1st rounder, depending on signability. That's going to be a tough one. He is an excellent hitter, but the pros want his arm. He is the perfect HS pitching prospect. Tremendous upside with his size, speed and durability.

    It would be a very tough decision to leave all of that money on the table, but my heart says Madison will go to school, develop even more and become UNC's next Andrew Miller. Madison is very young and an excellent student. I'm not sure he wants to hang out with the older fellas, when he can hang out on campus and enjoy the college life....but you never know. With the bonus he will be offered, he can bring some buddies with him to live :woohoo:

    Madison's not the only one of this group who feels strongly about the value of the education and the maturation. The class may not arrive completely intact; but, quite a few skeptics may be proven wrong.

    A few programs have distinguished themselves over the years for retaining highly recruited prospects. I think UNC may be reaching that point.

    I think it was Landon Powell's dad who coined the phrase "life-changing money" in the context of what it would take to forego a college education for professional baseball. First round money is "life-changing money" ...unless your dad is already a millionaire.
    I don't know Harvey or Porcello's financial situation but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say, a dollar will go farther in Caldwell County than in NJ or Conneticut.
    The best chance for any of these guys attending UNC, would be a replay of Andrew Miller's girlfriend going to Duke.
