    Just my opinion

You just don't force kids to play sports. You don't put pressure on them to play. Maybe he is tired? Maybe he just wants a break from playing? Maybe he wants to focus on working out and getting bigger stronger and faster? Maybe he wants to work out , take a break from playing and then come back in the fall? There is absolutely nothing wrong with a kid making a decision to take a break , work out and then come back later ready to get after it.

He has just finished the hs season. He is wanting to take a break from playing but wants to work out. Fine. Let him do just that and dont put pressure on him to play. If he loves the game he will be jumping at the opportunity to play in a few weeks.

Will he fall behind other kids that are playing this summer? Maybe , maybe not. He might take a big jump if he does the right things while he is not playing. If he really works out he could be alot better the next time he plays. I for one have always felt that younger kids play too much anyway and don't focus on the things that make you a better player in the first place. Play some. Train alot. There is plenty of time for him to play a ton of games in the future. Leave it up to him to make that decision. This is just my opinion.

If he gets faster , gains arm strength works on his swing etc he will be a better player the next time he plays. So he misses a few games so what. What he can gain by working out and becoming a better athlete will more than make up for the missed games in the summer. He can come back in the fall and get in some games before the winter and be more than ready to play hs baseball again next spring.

Why do you feel the need to take a break?

    Lol

Well, I know for a fact parents who push their kids to play a sport, not only does it drive the kid away from the sport, but also from the parent also. I understand you have the passion as a parent to see your kid succed in a sport you once loved. But all your doing by forcing him to play (if you were) is pushing him away from his family, and the game. I personally haven't had a summer off since i was about 10 or so. But to me, thats life. Girls and baseball, nothing else matters (except school of course).

To make a long story short, if you push your kid to play, he's gonna lose more then just his desire for the game, but also the desire for his parent(s).
