    I'll be generous :D

ok... someone mentioned diving.... well here is a drill for dive backs. WE call it the triple threat.

base runner starts at first acts like the ball is hit, pass ball or a steal. coach says get back as the runner is about 1/4 away from 1st. the runner must dive back into first then get up as coach says go go go the runner must run and slide into second then pop up and run to third sliding into third. this work both the dive back and the pop up slide.

    have fun!

having watched a lot of practices over the years, in both baseball and softball, one thing that seems to sometimes be forgotten is just simple repetition. Many coaches move away from the basic fielding drills (infield and outfield) too quickly at practice to work on specialty plays, such as pick offs, bunt coverages and "gadget" plays. Then in the games they wonder why a kid boots a routine grounder or an outfielder can't seen to get to a "can o' corn" fly ball.
An infielder needs at least 50 ground balls a day, three days, or more, a week to get to the point where they are proficient in clutch situations. Outfielders need to see enough flyballs to be able to learn to read balls off the bat and get in position to make the catch. Both need to get in the reps of both catch/field AND throw.
Check out the thread "Fungoman" on the baseball board... now that would be an awesome practice tool!

Some coaches feel that infield practice,(routine ground balls) take up to much of the practice time, but if you have two coaches hitting infield at the same time and one hitting outfield, in thirty minutes you can hit at least fifty ground balls to each infielder.
Some coaches use batting practice to work on situtation drills, works well for both, the hitters and the infield/outfield, everthing is hit live..

Could someone provide me with a drill or two that works on preventing a pitcher from replanting (i.e. not dragging the back toe).

    Thanks!

Do whats best for the team. She could hit DH and play JV too up to a certain # of games per week and season.
As far experience goes its definately better to go the JV way where she gets field time and at bats. Probably looked upon to be team leader too. Is the coach going to let her make that decision? Most would tell her " this is what I need you to do for the team".

Hopefully she will adjust to the role quickly.

I wish her the best. I suggest somehow you need to take the pressure off her. Sounds like shes getting thrown into a tough spot. Tell her not to expect a homerun every at bat. Get on base, build her confidence.
