    ??????

Curveball. Nasty!!!!!!! Guess you had everyone fooled with that one. From MLB to D-1. Next pitch slider: D-2 to D-3 or a knuckle ball: Junior or CC or that pitch know one knows HS to Middle. :rotflmao:

I realize there is virtually no substitute for size but there is also no substitute for the size of one's heart.

You are right. But, it is down the list for some programs. As someone was telling me the other day. You cannot turn your back or let up for one second. You can and will be replaced (regardless of heart or desire). Right or wrong. It is about the "W" plain and simple. Cannot sugar coat it or explain it. It is what it is.

Of course you have to have the skills but some smaller than average players do make it. I'm sure it's tough to make it if you're 5' nothing. But kids under 6 feet tall do play college ball.

"Size is just something for everyone to talk about." Stephen Tulloch, 5'9" starting linebacker for the Tenn. Titans.

NBA Slam Dunk champion 5'7" Spud Webb.

NBA point Guard, 5'3" Muggsy Bogues.

MLB 2nd baseman, 5'6" Freddy Patek.

San Diego Charger RB 5'7" Sprolles.

Somebody forgot to tell these guys that size matters.

My point is if you want to sit around and find an excuse I guarantee you'll find one.

I agree. You can find an excuse anyway in for any situation.
    Read the attached link.
http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-75308165.html Although, it addresses MLB players. Look at most of the college rosters. You will find a large number of under six foot players. I think some of the sizes listed blur the averages when comparing to MLB players. Most kids going into college are still growing and the fact that they are a very skilled under 6 foot D-1 freshman player now. How tall and big will they get as a Senior.

If it were totally a matter of evolution, the process presumably would take place at a much slower rate. It appears, in this case, that the Darwinian notion of natural selection has been replaced with just plain selection. " Baseball players are taller because scouts are out looking for taller baseball players."
"In our industry, as far as evaluating talent, you're driven to larger bodies," said Cardinals director of baseball operations John Mozeliak. "When you go to the Dominican Republic, for instance, you get all these kids at the tryouts. The first thing you look at is how a guy looks in the uniform. You're very unlikely to give any money to a guy who's 5-9 and 170 pounds."

I did not graduate from College so I will have to get SoutherNo1 to explain this theory to me before I can comment. He is a UNC grad.

    Its very easy to explain

its about wins and loses. Its about recruiting the kids that you believe will help you win. Its about having kids in your program that will take care of business in the classroom and on the field. Big kids , small kids , if they are players they all have heart and great desire to succeed. You have to show you can play regardless of what size you are.
