    Congratulations to Shane in his commitment to Surry County Community College. You will absolutely love Coach Tucker and his assistant, Coach Vernon, is the best baseball man in the entire state...and I don't say that lightly. For those of you that have an opportunity to meet Coach Vernon, you will know exactly why I said that.

    I recall a story involving those two coaches. Coach Tucker is an excellent hitting instructor, but he let Coach Vernon coach the pitchers. Coach Vernon's staff led their conference in ERA and overwhelmed the Surry County hitters in statistics. The next year, the coaches switched. Coach Vernon's hitters led the conference in hitting. I'm telling you this story not to show up Coach Tucker; he's an incredible coach, but to illustrate how good Coach Vernon is.

    And now they are getting one of my favorite players. With all of the talk about South Caldwell (deservedly so) and the talent they have, Shane is the player that stirs their drink. He is their emotional leader, best base runner and a superb bat- can go yard or bunt. He has great speed and a football mentality. If he had played for Impact or another high profile showcase team, Shane would have been recruited by many schools.

    Braves don't forget coach simmons formerly of barton. this guy brings alot to the table at Surry that had gone unnoticed in the past. He is also the main reason why barton won the best field in the country award last year and I expect surry to become the nicest playing surface in western NC by 2008. This guy is the real deal. tucker and vernon made a great decision to get him. plus, he is doing the recruiting now so you might want to give him a thumbs up as well....

    Good catch, Coach. I didn't know that. Coach Simmons will be a welcome addition to an already excellent staff. If he can make that field even better than it is....kudos!!! I hope he can get that fence moved back, though :hump:
