Hats off to the Montgomery guys, regardless of the score, those guys never gave up, never put their heads down and hustled down to the very last out. That's what it is all about!

FYI, Cary's Rooney was a Freshman at UNCW this past school season. He played very little and I believe he is red-shirting. Not sure how that works if he played too much to redshirt or not. I played with him my senior year of HS and the kid can play. He has really improved over the last 12 months.

    Rowan over Stanly 8-6

Rowan County (21-2, 15-1) defeated Stanly County (15-4, 11-4) by a score of 8-6. Rowan moved to three games ahead in the loss column over Stanly, South Rowan, and Lexington. Considering Rowan has games left against Montgomery and Wilkes, it would take a monumental collapse for them to be caught at this point.

Rowan led 8-5 going to the bottom of the ninth. An error, two hits, and a sacrifice fly later the game was 8-6 and Stanly had runners on 1st and 2nd. Jim Gannt replaced Lee Dupree on the mound with rising junior Corbin Shive. Shive induced Stanly's leadoff hitter to ground out ss to 2b. The relay to first was a tad late. Shive then struck out the next batter to end the game.

Keegan Linza started on the mound for Rowan and went 7 strong innings scattering 7 hits and stiking out 8. Justin Crowell took the loss for Stanly.

The same two teams meet again Saturday night in Salisbury.
