Revisiting an old Idea ....

1719 [Pops] Another thing I'd like to do with Braves is start a "state-wide" high school baseball news-letter/newspaper thing ..

1706 [Pops] yeah .... get reporters like you and mudcat to feed us stuff... go visit games .... spot light highschools .... then distribute it for free

1731 [Pops] at the high schools ... take ads from the big boys ... like "discount coupons" from Wendy's

1738 [Pops] let that pay the expenses.

1738 [Pops] yeah .... and the other part of the idea is to get the general student population back into baseball ... make it a profit center for high schools again by increasing interest.

1752 [niner_dad] we've tried to get our AD to let students in free, and make money at the concession stand...you know kids will buy drinks and snacks at a ballgame

1709 [niner_dad] but he can't see past the end of his nose

1749 [Pops] I know .... but you gotta remember, the in-season gate, the school keeps, the post-season gate goes to the NCHSAA.

1753 [niner_dad] yeah...but the in season gate at our school is practically non existent...just a few parents...we want the kids to come

1713 [Pops] I know .... we need cheerleaders in baseball.

1720 [Pops] that will bring out the guys.

1727 [niner_dad] and we haven't made it to post season since about '95

1729 [Pops] having the guys there will bring out the girls....

1750 [Pops] and you need the pep band to play between innings ... that will bring out the band parents...

1707 [Pops] Yep ... I've been campaigning all year for cheerleaders in baseball....

1725 [Pops] They could drag the basepaths between innings ... dance on top of the dugout ....

1745 [Pops] Dance in front of the home crowd to the pep band between innings ...

1704 [Pops] and serve food from the concession stand during the innings ...... racking up sales.

1743 [Pops] They come and take your order ... who can say no to that one ...

1727 [Pops] It's a hard sell to all the traditionalists ... but I'm enough of a hedonist to want to try it at least ...

1719 [Pops] You would definitely get all the dads to the game .... and the mom's would be there to make sure the dad's behaved.

1735 [Pops] I see "increased gate" everywhere with this one ....

17:37:02 [Pops] They don't even have to cheer .... just wear their uniforms and rake the base paths once after the 4th inning ...

1711 [Pops] That's where a newsletter comes in ..... you include pictures of the turnout at the HS's that are doing this ..... then they see that they had 300 people at the game, while their record was 5-22 .....

1722 [Pops] Hmmmmm..... NOW the AD's get interested ...

1728 [Pops] And the newsletters "hype" the players ... getting them attention with the student body ... pretty soon the BMOC isn't the quarterback anymore, it's the shortstop...

Great Ideas !!!!!! BUT around here the cheerleader thing wouldnt work.
I would be all for a pepband playing the national anthem or the 4th inning stretch . Maybe the band director could offer extra credit for those participants.

Reporting games is also a good idea , at least a rundown on here. I know last year rcbbfan gave pretty good details of West Rowan games and several of the other county games as well.
I will keep up with alot of the Kannapolis games , although i piss people off because i write it the way i saw it, not the way i was suppose to see it.

Maybe Impact Baseball could also use some of our post to add to that site.

 

I like it..I like it. Just need an innovator as an AD...love the band concept. I need to discuss this with our AD
