I know this was probably done here long before, but what are some of the qualifications college coaches look for in a prospect?

Catcher pop time D1, D2, or D3? or does it matter how quick?
speed home to 1st? even for slappers or lefties?
    speed home to home?
    arm stength or bat?
plus anything else you might can think of....

    Coach-able!

Apart from talent, are they coach-able, work ethic and epically grades. Most coaches want talented, educated, team players that are adaptable and willing to put in the effort required to be a student/athlete.

I saved this from several years ago. I do not recall the specific context where I ran across this but its safe to assume it was used in some sort of combine as it takes raw times and converts them on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best:

    10: 1.53 +/-
    9: 1.65 +/-
    8: 1.77 +/-
    7: 1.89 +/-
    6: 2.01 +/-
    5: 2.13 +/-
    4: 2.25 +/-
    3: 2.37 +/-
    2: 2.49 +/-
    1: 2.50 +

These catcher pop time numbers would be the average of several times. For those not familiar pop time is taken from the first pop in the glove when the catcher receives the pitch to the second pop when it hits the glove of the SS or 2B covering the bag.

I also have the info for 40 yard dash, H to 1st time, Gunned arm throw speed, and gunned pitch speed if anyone wants that. The numbers show just how rare getting a "10" in anything is....

Grades and attitude are the deal makers and breakers.

    Combine

Come to the RAQ/Lady Blues Combine and you will see first hand what the college coaches look for as far as testing, drills, and format etc. We have three college coaches and an athletic trainer that have designed the testing, drills, and format to assure we provide what the college coaches desire.

Some of the things important to coaches:
Core strength, quickness (not the same as speed), overhand throwing accuracy and force, athleticism, coachability, academic ability, at least ability to stay in school and eligible to play and softball sense. There are position specific areas for pitchers and catchers such as pop-times and throwing accuracy, pitch speeds, placement, framing, movement, mound presence, ability to manage stress, pitch out of jams, and competitiveness! Left out a major one, attitude; can I develop this kid and will she work for me? WORK ETHIC
Last Parent or Family issues which can sometimes be moved to First. Most want to avoid drama.
There are many other items that come in to play in recruiting but these are a few major ones.:byebw:

    6: 3.64 +/-
    5: 3.95 +/-
    4: 4.26 +/-
    3: 4.57 +/-

I would think having a good bat would be high on the list. If you can hit I'm sure there is a coach somewhere who will find a spot for you.
