quick question on suicide squeeze

situation: runners on 1st and 3rd , 2 outs.
batter squeeze bunts successfully, and gets thrown out at 1st base. runner from 3rd slides in safely to home way ahead of the batter getting out at 1st. defense does not try to throw home because it would not be even close.

does the run count?

Cal-Irvine had this situation tonight vs. ASU in the bottom of ninth, score tied. They did not attempt the squeeze and the batter hit a weak pop-up to the pitcher for the 3rd out. I thought it was a good squeeze attempt situation.

(then Irvine won it in bottom of tenth; side note, Irvine's last 3 wins have all been walkoffs in the bottom of last inning).

 

No run can be scored when the 3rd out is a force out.

I was thinking the same thing in terms of the squeeze chance then. The thing you have to hope for is the third baseman gets a little ancy and tries to get the runner out at home. If you can get the fielders to get nervous, you can win on that play. If not, they'll just throw to first.

I just cut the game on and saw a kid standing at the plate, two runners on, and a tie game in an elimination game.

I shoulda prefaced what I said with that. I didn't realize there were two outs when I first turned it on.
