Question on a HS coaching tendency

Let me ask about HS play. The last couple of years I have been going to a few games of a fairly good local HS program and have a question I wanted to get some input on.

The “hit and run”. How often do you feel it should be used in a game? As I was growing up it was basically a specialized play. My coach used it only in certain situations. This H.S. coach appears to use it as one of his main offensive tactics. Almost every time a kid gets on base with any speed and after the batter gets 1 strike. Since he uses it so much, it looks like the coaches this team plays regularly have picked up on that and routinely have their pitchers throw balls and pitchouts in those situations. His batters have must swing orders and they frequently get down in the counts and at a disadvantage for the rest of that at bat. To me it appears to take the bat out of the boys hands and causes them to get an awful lot of runners thrown out. What is your opinion on the use of the hit and run?
