Pitching Lane

    I've been watching the last game frame by frame mostly of the UCLA pitcher, #24, Macon I think. Her plant foot lands about 8" outside the 24" lane. She then fires across the outside corner to a lefty, takes another hop with the plant foot and lands back in the lane.

    Is that legal? I don't think so. But it's very effective!

    I'm wondering what the home plate umpire is thinking when there's no one visible between her and the centerfielder, except through peripheral vision.

    I'm sure it leaves a pretty obvious footprint where she lands too...

    FED is virtually the same as ASA any umpire can call an illegal pitch.
    The plate man watches the hands and watches for 24" violations.
    The field man watches for pitcher's plate, leap and crow hop violations.
