My daughter a RH pitcher had a left lower back sprain or some kind of muscle problem in that area. We had to shut her down pitching for a little over a month. During that time her speed dropped a couple of miles an hour. How much time would be reasonable for a pitcher to be back 100 pecent. I figured a couple of weeks to be game ready with control and a little longer before speed is back. This our first experience where she had to be totally shut down. I have seen a bunch of pitchers parents posting here. I am sure some of you have been through it or know someone that has. I am also curious about other injuries you have heard of and how they came back from them.
    Thanks in advance.

    Depends

on age and nature of the injury. Have you had a Doc check it out? With back and back related injuries especially use caution, caution, caution. Come back slowly with alot of stretching when comimg back. Have it looked at by a specialist and go from there.

We have taken her to a couple of doctors. She has been cleared to play. Stretching and taking some time off were stressed. That is why she was shut down for a month. She will be 14 next month.

    PITCHING IJURY

I've forgone the regular doc in the past & opted for a sports medicine/chiropracor. Has worked great for my dd. May not work for everyone, to each his own. He seems to know the in's & out's of pitching, & has given her drills to help her along the way.

I remember one period where my DD went 6 weeks without any pitching (no injury, she was just burned out). She lost 5 mph. It took 6-8 weeks to get the first 4 back, the last one took another month.

Her 14th birthday was during those 6-8 weeks, so about right at the same age.

    Sounds familiar

Our DD was having what we thought was a pulled muscle in her lower back not quite halfway thru high school softball season. Went to orthopedic doc for consult. Lo & behold, the young 'un had stress fractures in her lower spine. She did physical therapy for what seemed like a lifetime but it did the trick, thank goodness. She did miss the remainder of the season and a couple months of travel ball. If you haven't already taken her to an orthopedic doc, it would be a good idea. It could be that it's muscular........but better to be safe than sorry.....jmho. Best wishes to ya.

That is exactly what I was looking for. I knew someone had been through that before. I think not throwing for while was the problem and not the injury. I watched your daughter a little this weekend. I really didn't see anyone having much success against her. Good for her and you that she is still playing.

That was our next step if shutting her down didn't work.

You were too busy watching the Pink Gators to see what the Black Gators did to her. :stunned: By the end of game she was spent, giving up 3 runs in each of the last two innings (well, there were some E's too). She started pitching in the last half of our first pool game and hadn't left the circle since. Plus, she pitched three innings Thursday night. Even if we had pulled that one out, someone else had to take the next game.

I did see one ball that shouldve been played by an outfielder and one of our parents said there were a couple of obvious errors before that. One of the Gator parents commented that she was probably worn out from all the pitching she had seen. I wasn't considering how it ended but how she pitched before getting tired was an issue. I think I figured out who you were but most of the time you were buried in the scorebook and I didn't want to bother you. I am easy to find. The big NA on the back of my chair gives it away.
