I have always been told a good catcher can make a pitcher look good, even good fielders can keep a pitcher's ERA low if they are quick to the ball keeping a possible hit from being one, so why is it that the pitcher gets all the accolades ??

    Comments ????

I agree that pitchers get a lot of accolades, but they don't get the ONLY accolades. Great batters get a lot of recognition too, and can knock a "good" pitchers' ERA down.

    Good Response !!

But right now I can go ahead and tell you two POY's, because they are pitcher's so where is the fairness ?? You have a O/F batting a true .555 and a pitcher with an .79 ERA who do you think would get the POY ?? I think we put too much emphasis on pitching and not enough on the other 8 players. This is not the Kings Court, nothing personal Charlie, you need all the players to have a squad...

Without lowering the value of any player on the team because they are all certainly important, especially the good hitters, it is the "free-market" that puts the value on the pitcher.

What player carries the loss of a game on their stats?
What player carries the burden of hits and runs on their stats?

Is being a [stud] pitcher the hardest job on the team?

As far as POY, I dont put a lot of faith in subjective awards that have as much politics involved as stats.

    Duh!

Your daughter must not be a pitcher. Pitchers can control a game. Period.

I guess you want more accolades for your daughter..............

I guess an upside of this is that when you do have a position other than pitcher be nominated for POY then you've more than likely got a really good player.

Maybe we could have POY for each position?

When it's a Chelsea Leonard there can't be much disagreement at the pitching position. Same with Tish Mahon (sp?) at a fielding position.

And then, of course, there are those really good position players that don't get the recognition. Jordan Scarboro, WF-R, comes to mind. Kayla Hinton, SW Edgecombe. And others around the state.

That's one of the things I like about the State Games; we can get them all together at one venue and make judgment somewhat easier.
