I heard last week that Mike Shildt was selling his On Deck baseball facilities to the Hill brothers (Jason & Kevin) to pursue a career in college coaching. Can anyone confirm this or share anything that they might have heard?

This is true SouthLoop. The Hill family bought On Deck last Thursday. This should be a very easy transition as the Hills ( Dad-Gary, sons, Jason and Kevin) played big roles at the facility as coaches.

It is a dream come true for the Hills and has allowed Mike Shildt to pursue his dreams of being a D1 head coach or perhaps managing a minor league team. I wish both parties a lot of success in reaching their dreams...they are all classy people.

I wish coach Shildt the best of luck in what he pursues. He is a great coach as well as a great person. He has always been there for me when I have needed him. I will miss working with him. The Hill brothers are great as well. I played for J. Hill this summer and he helped me with almost everything. If anyone was thinking about joining On Deck because of Coach Shildt you should still do it. Both Coach Hills have played for Coach Shildt and know a ton of things that he teaches. They are both great guys. Good luck to both parties and we are going to miss you Coach Shildt.

I agree with my son... Mike has done so much for baseball in the Charlotte area, and when Jason Hill and his dad and brother became involved with OnDeck they did nothing but strengthened the program further. I wish Mike much success in following his dream. I also want to say to the Hills how glad I am for them to have this opportunity. I know OnDeck just keeps on growing, and with the three of you involved it will keep going with a smooth transition! What a great opportunity for any baseball/softball player to be involved with such knowledgable baseball family!

I can't recall the name of the facility on South Blvd., but I'm certain that there was no association with On Deck.

I think you are describing the original location of the local Grand Slam, USA franchise, before Mark and Jeff (the first owners -- I can't remember their last names) moved the business out to Monroe Road. I'd guess that move happenend about 7 years ago. The business operated on Monroe until about 3 years ago, when Mark and Jeff sold it to the current owner, who relocated it to another, larger Matthews location. As Prepster correctly reported, there was no relationship between On Deck and Grand Slam; however, Mike Shildt and Jason Hill used to teach out of the Grand Slam facility from time to time when it was on Monroe, while Jason was still in school at UNCC and before Mike started On Deck -- I know I met both of them there years ago.

It would be nice to catch up with Mark and Jeff and Christian and Holly. They did a great job running the old Grand Slam facility. I'm sure the new facility is well-run, too; I just don't frequent it anymore.

    Nice facility!

Had the opportunity to work out there and they do have exemplary facilities with what seems plenty of "room" to expand the facility to perhaps oncorporating some type OUTDOOR training mounds cages etc why not????:D
