Only two days until kickoff of the 2007 football season, got some interesting season openers coming up in the NW4A...

    Enka @ McDowell
    Maiden @ East Burke
    Alexander Central @ North Gaston
Fred T Foard @ South Caldwell
    Davie County @ Watauga

I know being the first game everybody is excited, lets get the conversation started...any thoughts or predictions?

    Davie @ Watauga

I'm so nervous that I feel like I'm about to suit up. This is a great early season matchup. I don't think a loss by either one will greatly impact the team. I do think a win will catapult them on to a great season. I believe the players that Davie lost will have a greater affect on them than Watauga’s losses. I give Watauga the advantage at home. 28-13

Certainly Watauga's crowd will be big and loud, but Davie brings a big crowd as well, even on the road. I still choose Watauga, but in a closer 21-14 game.

McDowell is the other game I am quite interested in. If I wasn't in Boone, I would be watching this one. How will the new McDowell fare? From what I hear both teams will have high powered O.So accordingly a high scoring affair 35-24 Titans.

Alexander Central @ North Gaston: The Cougars return only 3 starters from last year. QB Josh Russell threw for 1,800 yards a year ago and he is the lone returning starter on offense. Russell is not likely to have as much time to throw as a year ago. The running game may be a little better than 2006. Defense will be led by the 2 returning LB's in Aaron Millsaps and JD Latham. Tough opener at N Gaston, Cougars likely to have problems with the speed of the Wildcats. The North QB, AJ Blue is supposed to be an elite athlete.

Game has been moved to 8pm.

AJ Blue is just smart, he almost never makes mistakes, and takes advantage of every opportunity he gets. If the AC defense is anywhere near the level of last year it could be a great game.

The Cougar defense will be a work in progress this year. They lost the entire defensive line which included two Shrine Bowlers. They also lost Safety Dustin Harrington who had 9 interceptions.
