Number of Games????

How many total games are allowed to be played during a HS season? I have been looking though some of the records posted and see that some teams post more games played than another. How many total can they play? Number of each: conference, out of conference and others.

 

Under NCHSAA rules a team is allowed to play 23 regular season games. They may play one additional endowment game, where a portion of the game proceeds go to the athletic association.

Conference or state tournament games do not count as part of the allotment. So currently it is possible for a member team of the NCHASS to play 24 regular season games plus 3 conference tournament games plus a maximum possible 10 state play off games if both the regionals and state finals series go the distance making the max total 37.

Independent schools are not governed by these game restrictions.

 

Conference vs out of conference just depends on how many teams are in the conference. If its a 6-team conference, you only play 10 regular season conference games and you must play 14 out of the conference in order to fill up the schedule. If its a 10-team conference, you play 18 in conference and you're only able to pick up 6 nonconference games.
