    Booster Clubs

This too is why I joined the booster club and became a volunteer coach in the Softball program. Let me just say that I believe our high school has one of the best booster clubs in the state. Being in Wake County, the school systems gives $950.00 to the schools athletic budget each year to support about 25 varsity sports. The booster club does the rest. The way we do it is mainly thru concessions at Football games along with basketball, baseball and softball. All gate money goes directly to the school athletic budget to pay officals, NCHSAA membership dues and coaches dues. That leaves the bulk of all other expences to the boosters. Now, When a team wants to raise money, they are encouraged to do so. All the money raised by each team comes thru the booster club but is earmarked just for that particular team. Anything they want and have the money fir it, they get it. And if they come up alittle short, we kick in the rest. Everyone knows that football pays most of the bills. It is very expensive to have all the helmets and shoulder pads inspected every year, and you will always have to buy new ones. In the past six years that I have been on the board, we have purchased a new tractor, new washer and dryer for the field house and installed lights on the softball field. Our AD is very involved with the booster club and his input is very important to us but never has he kept us from spending money on the teams that needed anything. If schools have ADs that don't fully supoort all thier athletic teams something should be done.

Sorry to get on my soap box, but this is a subject that I am very passionate about and it pains me to hear that other schools don't do as we do. I no longer have a DD in high school, but my involvement if anything has increased. We must do everything possible to keep our kids involved and give them the most support we can.

The results in your case speaks for itself! Your school has one of the best softball programs around--and a field to match!!! Complete with new lights!! That's the way all schools should do it!! Of course, good coaches have a lot to do with in ya'll's situation. Even if they aren't as good looking as the West coaches. But, you can't have everything.

...props to both Garner and West Johnston folks who give all they can to promote HS sports. Very few schools are fortunate to have the facilities and support as these two are fortunate to have. Certainly there are other schools who have an allumni base or a group of good hearted folks who make things work for the sports programs through their $ and connections to the $.
NEVER underestimate the power of $ raising booster clubs!!!!
Get involved and you'll see positive results.

And if coaches looks were the rankings for these two teams, Garner would win in a squeaker due to Moe having more hair on his head than all the rest put together, and Ricky, keeping his lettuce cropped high and tight as the VP! LOL

I have to tell you that I've never seen a school principal at just about every home game as is the West principal, Brookie Honeycutt. And not just in softball! The West principal and the West office staff as far as that goes is as involved in sports as any school I've ever seen. I wish all schools were like that. I hope the kids realize how fortunate they are!

By the way, Marlin thinks good looking means you search for things well.

...you had me at the name Brookie!

BTW, my DD thinks the world of you brother, and so do I.....but when it comes to bein' purdy??............................
.................Lets just leave it this way, when God said come get your brains, and you thought He said, "its gonna rain", you ran for cover under a hitting cage and never left. Many kids are better hitters because you didn't leave the cage to get a Mr. January face.
    Thanks Phreak, you're the BEST!

Thanks for the compliment but you do exaggerate! I think it's a sum total of what all the coaches and parents and the players themselves have put in that makes them what they are. But it does feel good to know I had at least 2 cents in there.

If I'm not purdy why do you keep looking at me like that?

.....this thread is about a team needing help getting gear. Don't let my "2 cents" get in the way of that. If the coaches, parents, principles, boosters, locals, will pony up some cash, we'll see some positive results.
As for looking at you pal, I complimented you on your contribution to the kids, thats all I look at.
Back to the thread, if a team needs support in funding, and any gear can be sent there way, how do we go about sending it?
UPS, hand delivery, meet in Greensboro, Etc.?
I'll be happy to gather up all I can in our area to help out.
