Monroe High school is in dire need of any type of gear that can be reused. The truth of the matter is, many talented and athletic girls do not try out for softball because they can not afford even a cheap pair of cleats or a glove. As a team we have two bats, and one of them is cracked. As you look around and wonder what to do with the old gloves, balls, cleats, bats, and anything else that your DD may have outgrown, retired, or can afford to part with, please keep us in mind. If the distance is reasonable to Monroe NC I am more than willing to pick any items up. It is no secret that Monroe has won 1 game in seven years and our average margin of defeat is twenty four runs over that span. I want to improve on that as I have had preliminary contact with a super bunch of girls who are eager to learn the beautiful game. All we need are the tools to learn the tools needed to be competitive and successful. I know gear is not cheap, but your contributions would mean the world to many girls who need it.

    Thanks

This is not intended to be negative but it appears ya'll have a state-of-the-art football/track complex. Maybe there are funds available to help with softball. If there isn't you may be able to find local companies who would sponsor some of your kids. Do you receive a fair share from the booster club? Sometimes you have to be a little pushy to get what girls deserve.

Seems to me like the school should at least buy a few bats and catcher's equipment, nets, etc. I think the parents would spring for a glove and cleats. But I do hope you get the stuff you need. Good luck!

PS: I didn't mention Title IX on purpose.

You would think the dolleges would have some extra "something". I would strongly suggest you speak with the softball coach at Wingate. The fact that they are your neighbors, I'm sure they would like to help.

We did a TBR drive for a group that went to the Dominican Republic and they gathered up 100's of shoes, gloves, bats and balls. You would think it wouldn't be that difficult for some of the larger TB teams and their players that can help with some of this stuff.

You are right, Monroe does have a new three something million dollar stadium for football soccer and track. Baseball and softball are the red headed step children of the school and have to commute to home games at a less than spectacular field. I had to attend four booster meetings and formally request to get game balls for next year

That's not fair to baseball or softball!! I'm willing to bet that the football cleats and other equipment are not paid for by the players either.

Google Title IX and you will find out you have some bargaining power. From what I have read all that has to be done is request an inquiry and the feds have to investigate. Have a parent or two do it if it jeopardizes your standing.

Not meaning to stir up trouble but fair is fair and the kids are worth it!!

our softball budget includes four boxes of games balls and the line paint is supplied by the baseball team. we are allowed to purchase uniforms every three years. if it wasnt for our booster club and a few parents, we wouldnt have anything either. talking to a friend from another school in our conferance, his daughter had to pay 250.00 to play volleyball (shoes and such) and another 200 to play basketball, but football players paid nothing as did baseball.....
