Matt Mangini, a sophomore at NCSU, has been named the National Player of the Week for the 2nd Straight Week!!

"3B Matt Mangini, North Carolina St.: Mangini continued his remarkable start to the 2006 season with his second incredible 3-game series in as many weekends. Against Hofstra, he went 9-for-12 with 3 triples, one double, 8 runs scored and 7 RBIs. In six games this season, Mangini is batting .800 (20-for-25) with 3 triples, 2 doubles, 13 runs scored and 14 RBIs. It marks the second straight Louisville Slugger National Player of The Week honor for Mangini."

Matt is a good friend of mine and this is a huge accomplishment for him, and anyone. Matt did not see much playing time at all last season for the Wolfpack, I think he had something like 6 hits throughout the whole year. After a very hot summer (named player of the year in whatever summer league he was in up in Canada) and the departure of Matt Devine at 3rd Base for the Wolfpack, it is definitely Matt's time to shine.

Congratulations Matt. He is from Apex HS.

When Matt was at Apex, they came to our place to play us. I remember it all too well, that BOMB he hit ended up in the parking lot at Food Lion!! What a shot!! It was also an honor to coach him in the State GAmes.

Matt is still killin it by the way. Not sure of his stats, but he is the "buzz" of NCSU's campus right now... but maybe that's because the basketball team has forgotten how to win as of late. :agreed:
