Few notes on the North Side Boys - North Meck and Hopewell that is........It was a real bummer to find out that Cavi (Mike Cavasinni) would miss the entire 2008 season for UNC - but if there was ever a fighter who will do all it takes to come back and be as good as or better than before (if possible), it's Mike. I have no doubt he will be back next year and stealing bases left and right. A few of the Hopewell former players all had some good showings on the diamond this past weekend. Anthony Sully had a good weekend on LR's behalf, Andy Oliver had his usual good stuff on the mound for Pfeiffer (as Braves put it - "slammed the door"), and Dusty White pitched a complete game, 4-hitter in his first outing for Wingate - against Nova Southeastern down in Ft. Lauderdale, earning him the SAC Pitcher of the Week award. On the North Meck front, Zach Rosenbaum pitched 3 scoreless innings for UNCC in their Homecoming Intersquad Game. And to no surprise, Aaron Bray - from the "other side of the tracks" put one over the fence as one of his two hits for the day in the UNCC intersquad as well.

Let's hear about some of the other Meca 7 (used to be Meca 8) and SW4A former players and how their weekends went, as some were involved in opening season series and some were involved in inter-squad games.

I was able to catch some of the double-header on Sunday between Belmont Abbey and visiting Mars Hill. What a rivalry those two have built over the last couple of years. It was good to see some local boys on both sides of the field. The games drew a large crowd and were full of excitement and great plays.
