Legion Information

As most people have probably realized, the legion threads this spring has become more than heated, they have become violent. When we started this site, one of the premises was that there would be, at least in our small corner of the world in Prep Baseball, a clean "G" rated site that pre-teens could come to in safety and learn about High School baseball.

Because of the very nature of these "disagreements", they haven't been compatible with our nature and/or philosophy. Once they became too heated, we had to remove them. This is our standard. People have complained about us denying them a right to express themselves. We'll, we have that right. People came on to our site and expected us to change our standards because of their passion for the topic.

They did not take time to realize that keeping the standards of this site is just as much a passion to the moderators and developers of it.

I now want to commend a member of this site for the work he has done on this problem and also commend a long time reader of this site who does not post.

#1. DownSouth needs to be commended. He is associated with the Caldwell Legion program. Even though his posts on these topics were all reasonable and in good taste, the very nature of the topic pushed it over the edge through no fault of his. He has created a web site where you can go read about the latest happenings in this situation. Please visit www.caldwellbaseball.com

At his web site, he has a columns section with reflects the status of the appeals and provides links to all newspaper articles REGARDLESS of which side of the argument they seem to be taking in this matter. He has also provided an outlet where people can send him comments through the site, they can be filtered and then posted. We have no such ability and I wish to commend his efforts in this matter.

#2. Coach Barbour from Garner also needs to be commended. When the emotions were running high and people were posting nothing but negative statements, he took the high road and waited, without making any statement until the matter was decided. He could have signed on to the site here and made the matter infinitely worse (for me). He was reading the comments daily and knew what was being said, but chose not to inflame the situation... thank you.

There aren't to be any replies to this post. It's not about healing, it's about informing. It's going to serve as an announcement only. Politics just doesn't merge well with this board in its current state of development and, off-season, legion is mainly politics. There won't be a running commentary on this site about the Davie County situation, the 19 year old rule, the change in the date of calculating ages or any other purely legion issue.

We are about Games and Players. Tryouts begin Monday.

The title of this message board is "preps". I think if we keep discussions to HS baseball we will all be better off.

 

I think it's very important that everyone out there understand that we moderators are 100% united in our efforts to keep our "G" rating. Our soul purpose has been to promote the kids and offer as much "useful" information as we can muster.
