Anyone that went to last Sat.'s game at Doak Field, why was Andrew Brackman pulled after the 7th? He had held the Heels' outstanding hitters to 3 hits & 2 runs and retired the side in order in the 7th.
State was clinging to a 3-2 lead at that point, and then the Heels battered the reliever.

    Pitch count again??

The same reason Carolina's coach called time and went to the mound in late innings of last year's national championship game when his pitcher had been doing well,,, only after the meeting at the mound things suddenly went downhill fast for the Tarheels.

Answer to your question,,,, sometimes even the best coaches can make the mistake of overcoaching.

I wasn't there but I've heard some discussion about it. Seems like I remember folks sayin that the Heels had started to time Brack's fastball and had sent a few deep in the 6th and 7th but right at people.

I tend to agree with the comment about overcoaching. See what you have: one of the top college pitching prospects in the nation expected to go early first round in the draft, who has struggled somewhat this season but has held a great hitting team (your arch rival) to just 3 hits and 2 runs, at your home stadium with an overflowing partisan home crowd in support and very loud.........all this should be boosting Brackman's confidence as he pitched along. But then you pull him?

& I definitely agree that the UNC coach overcoached in that CWS in '06. That was obvious.

    oh well.
