Myers Park starter Jason Kennell left after 4 with a 5-4 lead, but the Mustang defense couldn't hold the lead. Jeremy Mathis took the hard-luck loss, giving up 3 unearned runs in his two innings of relief as Myers Park made 3 errors in the two frames.

Scotland County's right hander Tio McLean was very impressive, throwing very hard and battling through a tight strike zone and control problems with the curve ball. He did a great job of pitching out of trouble and used the breaking ball well late in the game. He went 6 2/3 and appeared to maintain his velocity through the first 6.

I heard the young man will be playing at Laurinburg JC next season and wish him the very best. He has real potential. I hope he has an arm left, though. He threw way too many pitches last night -- the unofficial count I heard was 154 -- I wonder how many he would be allowed to throw in an important conference game. Note to the Scotland County coach -- this is a round-robin spring break tournament for goodness sake. What are you thinking? Note to Tio's parents -- if the coach isn't going to protect your son's arm, you have to. We've been through this subject numerous times on this board, so I won't go off again, but no high school pitcher's arm can take that kind of abuse.

Catcher JJ Rollins was very impressive for Myers Park, both with the bat (three hits) and behind the plate. It is hard to find adequate words to describe his strong arm and ability to throw guys out.

BTW, great pictures and write up on Michael Cavasini and North Meck's win over Olympic in today's Charlotte Observer.

Greg Garmon got the win in the Butler-Hopewell game . He went in with Hopewell leading 12-6 and pitched 3 scoreless innings.

    WP: Pierce

    HR: Tris Hollar (Grand Slam)

Hollar hit a shot in the bottom of the 5th with NM trailing 6-3. That ended the scoring for the game.

Hopewell vs Waddell - Incorrect Info by Observer

Jaryd Keesee, who pitched very well for Hopewell is pictured on the front page of the Sports section of the Charlotte Observer - however the caption refers to him as Zack Turton. Jaryd pitched 5 innings without giving up a hit, and it was nice to see a good shot of him, but unfortunately the writer for the Observer listed incorrect information. Ben Ben Beard came in and finished out the last two innnings, first time he has played at all in about three weeks. Hopewell had some nice doubles in the game by Laco, Cochran, White, and Richardson. Good defense for the game as well. Waddell's program has certainly came a long way and the coaches and players showed a lot of class and sportsmanship, as always.
