I have seen a call twice in two different college games that I had never seen before. At the UNCW/Maryland game last weekend, a player for Maryland got into a rundown between 3rd and home. There was also a runner on 1st that advanced to 3rd in the rundown. This resulted in two runners ending up on 3rd base at the same time where both were promptly tagged and the umpire signaled out. The lead runner walked off the bag and was immediately tagged out for a double play. Yesterday, the same thing happened in the UNC/UNCW game and the result was a backbreaking double play to end the inning for UNCW.

Make sure that your guys know that in rundown situations where two players occupy the same base that the lead runner has priority to the base. If both are tagged, make sure that the lead runner does not walk off the bag - conversely, if you are in the field, make sure that you tag both and maybe the lead runner will think he is out and you may get out of a potential big inning.

Unfortunately, most players learn a particular rule by having it called against them. I guess that trait doesn't end after HS.

Baseball has to be the most complex game on the planet.

Thats what makes baseball so great.. you can be the most gifted athlete, strongest athlete, fastest athlete.. but if you dont have something between your ears your only half of a baseball player.

Ive heard RC say it on numerous occasions, baseball is 90% mental...
