On the mound, I thought that Josh Thrailkill, '06, TC Roberson and Adam Warren, '05, New Bern looked particularly good.

Ron Causey, C, Weslyan Academy was a late addition who looked good.

The weather was very cold and windy... it was the true winner. The rapid shift from 80-85 the week before to the 45-55 with 20+ mph winds and high humidity seemed to effect most of the players. It's hard to predict weather that late in the year, but you can't hold it any earlier since most players are still committed to tournaments/showcases through the last weekend in October.

    Good format, well run.

11/9, Impact Baseball 2004 Unsigned Senior Graduates Event:

Weather cold and windy at the 11/9 Impact’s 2004 Unsigned Senior Graduates event as well. 80 unsigned senior baseball players showed up for this senior showcase workout event which included many players that colleges should still be anxious to sign up for their 2005 college baseball season! These senior baseball players were at this past weekend’s Impact showcase event for the last time to: find out if they could add another option to their list of college applicants; some had been searching for a college to play baseball in 2005 at no avail as yet and; other senior baseball players were just starting their search for a college that they could play baseball at in 2005!

There were no baseball games to be played for the unsigned senior baseball players on Sunday, 11/9, just evaluations, a lot of note taking, and whispers from the 25 college coaches (mostly DII and DIII) and major league scouts in attendance. The 60-yard dash was first, then defensive workouts (infielders, outfielders & catchers), then batting practice, and last, pitcher’s bullpens. There seemed to be a few pulled muscles here and there after the 60 yard dash event was ran as the warm-ups before the 60 yard dash still did not seem quite fine enough on this cold afternoon in November @ UNC-W.

Catchers were having a little trouble catching a few balls here and there as the balls were hitting hard in the their cold mitts. It was also evident that the cold weather had an effect on the infielders and outfielders as well as they went through their defensive workouts as balls would fly and tail off at any given minute. It was also very tough for most of the pitchers to stay loose and warmed up come their time on the mound which was the last event of the evening, especially if you were pitcher #79 by 7:00 pm on Sunday, 11/7!

Good format for unsigned seniors…hope all the senior baseball players that showed get some good responses from the college scouts in attendance. Thanks to Impact Baseball for putting on the unsigned senior event! Looking forward to reading Impact’s complete wrap up article of the event on www.impactbaseball.com soon!

I thought the unsigned senior showcase went very well even though is was absolutly freezing out there. I was very pleased to see the recruiters and scouts were very attentive even with the bitter cold. I noticed a large amount of DII and DIII scools in attendance, not so many DI. Anyway, I have a couple of questions. We are now in a dead period for DI and DII, right? An extensive quiet period follows, is this just D1 or DI and DII? So if a senior did catch someone's interest in this showcase, considering the extensive quiet period, what can a player expect in communications from a DI, DII or DIII?

I was not at the unsigned senior showcase . My son was and was sure glad he was one of the early pitchers.
I would imagine all of the speed times 60's , pitchers and catchers would be much slower than normal?

It was the Division I coaches who voted in the Quiet Period at their last annual meeting. It applies only to them.

I know that the 60 times for the seniors were very slow. One guy that normally runs the 60 in 6.7 ran 7.01 and another that normally runs 7.4 ran 8.01. According to a scout I know, he did not clock anyone under 7. I have no idea what the POP times were or radar times, but am very curious.

My son said his last pitch was 81 but knew he was faster in previous pitches.
I clocked him at 83 and 84 last week in warm weather .

There is a long list of who looked good .... the question is "who looked great ...".

In the cold weather, the hitting, pitching and fielding was all better than I expected it to be.

Wes Borden looked good with the lumber, so did Dusty White. I thought Cale Allison swung a good stick.

Defensively, the guys looked solid. There were a few un-characteristic errors. I liked the looks of Isaac Harrow as an Infielder.

Two top heavers were probably Adam Warren and Josh Thrailkill but there were some others who improved their standings. Quite a few guys in the mid-upper 80's, so the determining factor is command and a solid 2nd pitch.

    All-in-all, a good showcase.
