HS coaches / non-employees?

    Does each county school system have their own policy about hiring coaches that are not employees of the school system?
    Our county does not allow this; but I'm aware of some that do.

    Yes. Some allow it, others don't. Some provide outsiders only if no teacher wants the job. I was an outside coach in a middle school - lost the job when a teacher wanted the extra duty pay.

    I know the policy here where I live is that as long as you are an employee ( teacher, not adminstration) in the county school system, then you can coach a high school team.

    I'm not a teacher but coached a wrestling program for a Middle School in Gaston County. There are schools in Gaston County that will only allow teachers to coach, so they say. That's too bad actually, cause a lot of times their just getting somebody who just wants the extra money, and could care less about the kids.

    I am an assist coach for a varsity Baseball team in my county. I am a part-time teacher and deputy sheriff. I get a little gas money at the end of the season. I do it more for the kids than the money.
