I think NC Prep football is underated. Over the last few years NC has had top 10 talent. The likes of Leak, McClendon, Baker, etc.

This year NC has 3 players in the All-American with 2 starting. Spikes and McNeil.

It's hard to match-up with Texas, Cali, Fla, just because of the pure numbers of it, but I think NC is pretty dang good.

Ask SC at the Shrine Bowl this year. :trophy:

    TA McClendon??

I am a wolfpack fan through & through............but I don't hang my hat on TA anymore. He was a huge disappointment........fumbles, attitude, bad work ethic, etc.

I agree with Smashmouth, just the numbers itself prohibits North Carolina from being up there at the level of states like Texas, Florida and other states. But North Carolina has been making some strides at getting better. One thing that proves that is the fact that you got guys like Leak and now Spikes going to programs outside the Carolina region. For years, the best players from the Tarheel State have either stayed in-state or gone to a neighboring state's school. That's slowly but surely changing. It's getting harder for the local schools (Big 4, Clemson and South Carolina) to keep these guys close to home when you got teams like Alabama and Florida making serious offers.

It's decent. Probably middle of the road but you have to figure out of all the southern states it's probably one of the worst. It's definitely an underrated state as far as football is concerned cause it's so highly regarded as a basketball state. South Carolina is regarded as a better football state (even though they might not be). Next year at Georgia the starting lineup could be 3 Wide Receivers from North Carolina and a North Carolinian at Quarterback. Granted 3 out of the 4 are at Independence. The teams just aren't as deep in North Carolina as they are in states like Ohio, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, and California and that's the biggest difference. Every state in New England sucks at football also, and most states in the North with the exception of Wisconsin and Michigan are only decent at best at football. Not sure how good midwest states are though.

Frank Beamer said that they rarely recruited NC until they joined the ACC. He said that he had no idea how good NC prep football was overall. Of course he may have been blowing smoke....
