Haven't been over here in a while. Just came over here because I saw on CNN that some coach in North Carolina was suspended for punching out an umpire. They said it happened in Buncombe County (Asheville) So I take it it was probably an NW4A coach?

I haven't heard that one. There was an incident involving an umpire and an inadvertent bump....but that was a separate incident that happened more than a week ago. with an Asheville team. I hope there was no other incident...that would not be good

    Perhaps that's why...

Enka isn't coming to senior night. The link didn't work for me, but if you go to youtube and search "Enka coach" it comes up. Not really a punch, and the ump had his mask on anyway, but clearly stepping over the line.

If CNN portrayed it as "punching out the ump" then they are striving for sensationalism - not news reporting.....

There was no "punch" involved. Funny thing, video, it can be used to show what someone wants it to show. To watch anything on the local news, all they showed was the coach open-handing the umps head..... making it appear that was the original point of contact. The Enka coach had approached the ump, they spoke, the ump turned his back to signal conversation over, the coach reached out and put his hand on the umps back to get him to turn around (which evidently you cant do - touch an ump) and the ump turned around fast, the two were face-to-face, the ump "bumped" the coach in the face (while still wearing the face mask) and the coach overreacted by open-hand slapping the ump in the head (on the head gear).

Very sad situation, the coach had done great things with the baseball team over the last 2 years...One of those situations that shouldn't have happened - the coach appears to be a very nice guy with one lapse in behavior -

IMO the umps around WNC this year have been on the "extreme" side, not tolerating ANYthing - and this coach was out of line, but there have been other instances where umps have made extreme calls with very little, if any, provocation.
