Freshman Throws No Hitter

King – The West Stokes Lady Wildcats hosted the Eastern Guilford Wildcats in a North State 2A Conference softball game on Tuesday, April 18th. Freshman Brandi Holmes pitched her first no-hitter in her high school career for the 10-0 six inning game win for West Stokes.
Holmes struck out the side in the top of the first, while West Stokes plated 3-runs in the bottom half of the inning. Laurie Sisk started the game by reaching on the pitchers error and then advanced to second on a passed ball. With two-outs Alice Smith delivered a double to score Sisk. Senior Sonya Vaden stepped in after Smith’s double and hit her third homerun of the year over the left-field fence for the early 3-0 lead after one inning.
Both teams were sent down in order in the second inning, but the Wildcats scored five more runs in the bottom of the third. Sisk doubled to lead the inning off, and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Ashley Spalding singled scoring Sisk. Smith and Vaden walked bring freshman Samantha Wilson to the plate. Wilson doubled off the left field wall plating Spalding and Smith. Vaden stole home, while Wilson went to third. Brittany Palmer singled knocking in Wilson to give West an 8-0 lead.
Holmes again set the side down in order, striking out two of the three batters she faced in the top of the fourth. West Stokes scored another run when Maegan Kirby entered the game and slapped a single to right field to start the inning. Smith then doubled platting Kirby for the 9-0 lead.
After going scoreless in the fifth, West Stokes pushed the final run across in the sixth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule. Smith singled to start the inning and then scored on three passed balls to end the game.
Holmes completed the game with 12-strikeouts, one walk, in six innings of play. She is now 3-2 and lowered her ERA to 2.26 on the season with 72-strikeouts in 43.1 innings of work.
Leading the way at the plate for West Stokes was Smith by going 3-for-3 with 3-runs scored, two doubles, a walk, and 3-RBIs. Vaden went 1-for-2 with 2-runs scored, a walk, a homerun and two RBIs. And finally Wilson was 1-for-3 with a bases loaded double to plate two runs for the Wildcats. West Stokes in now 5-0 in conference play with a double header coming on Tuesday, April 25th at Reidsville High School starting at 4pm.
