Looks like the AD didn't do his paperwork.....which probably means a player wasn't in the district and he forgot to get a release from the players team he was suppose to play for this year....

I'm seeing where Winston Salem didn't show up tonight and Randolph County gets a forfeit win....hhhhmmmmm...no details yet?

It is one of the things that turns me off about legion ball. Seems there is always junk like this going on.

The ineligible players were from the eastern Guilford area. They should have played for Burlington but the Burlington legion gave them a release and they played for eastern Randolph last year all the way into the state tourney without any problems.

But since Rockingham County was actually closer that meant Eastern Randolph had to get a release from them too. They didn't thus the DQ.

Now no team should be allowed to play with ineligible players but what really gripes me about this particular situation is we all know the Rockingham coach knew about these players not being released BEFORE the playoff series started. So instead of playing that card before the games he waited to see how bad ER would beat his team before pulling out his ace in the hole.

Personally I think Rockingham should not play the next round and let Kernersville get the free pass since ER was disqualified.

This reminds me of the state playoffs a few years back when the Wilmington coach got a couple of Greensboro players DQed because they had played in a showcase game. Of course he only did that AFTER his team lost.

:blah: :blah: sour grapes :blah: :blah:

I wish AL had a time limit for challenging a potential DQ of a player. For a coach or an official to know or suspect a potential DQ and wait until the playoffs to "play their ace in the hole" seems to go against the AL mission statement.

I find it ridiculous that each year it's only during the playoff time that you find out that a player is ineligible. To me, it would seem more fair that an arbitrary date (like before playoffs begin or mid season) be set to challenge a player's eligibility than allow a team official to (keep in his back pocket) a disqualification so they may wait to see how that specific team does for the season. That is underhanded, unfair and goes against every and any rule or spirit of the rule.

Rockingham should not even have a team if the coach waited to protest after the series was over thenhe is a jerk. But on the other hand Beeson should have done his job before the series started.

What happened in the winston-Salem series.

I'm curious too why Winston-Salem forfeited and didn't even show up? Also, how will this affect them the rest of the series, or for that matter are they just throwing in the towel for the season?

Great question. You don't want to pounce them without knowing the reasons, but it doesn't look good at all that a team doesn't show up or called off. I hope it's not because they don't have enough players

I agree with both statements homeplate. But I find it curious that each year you only hear about this during the playoffs. I suspect that many knew about this the whole season and waited to see what happened.

I suggest to put a deadline that is fair to protest an ineligible player or at least make the player ineligible without punishing the whole team.

    WS forfeit last night

The word we got was simply "they didn't know game 1 was last night."
Game 2 is tonight is W-S and I'm sure they'll be there and ready to play.
