    Slap vs Bunt Attempt

Yes I know you are dealing with officials that really do not understand the difference themselves; but maybe this will help you. when a hitter attempts a slap, we are looking for the bat to move in a forward direction to where the pitch is coming from (i.e. a "flicking" motion), (the batter in a slap attempt does not have to break her wrist for it to be called an attempt.) As for the bunt, we are looking for more of a "jabbing" motion from the hitter. And yes, if you leave the bat in the zone, whether or not you are actually attempting to make contact, it should be called a stike. The hitter must attempt to remove the bat from the zone.
