Did anyone see the small write up in sports illustrated last week? Junior pitcher for clemson. Led the Cape Cod league in Strkeout's and was 3rd in ERA. Graduated out of North Forsyth high school.

DJ was spotted by the Clemson coaching staff while they were recruiting another player at the same school. I've heard some parents begrudge kids who get scouted by MLB, or colleges. This is a case in point as to why I welcome any scout ,or coach to my son's games....whether they're there to see him ,or someone else.

We had the misfortune of facing DJ and Addison Johnson their Soph year at North Forsyth. Both were impressive and both players accomplishments have been well documented over the years on TBR. I was happy to see him have the success he had in the Cape Cod league...

Addison played on the same team as DJ in the cape league as well. Addison will be a sophomore this year and DJ will be a junior.

I talked to DJ & his Pop earlier this summer (the day before he headed northeast to Cape Cod). They were taking in a CPL game at Thomasville. Quality kid from a top drawer family.

Clemson has pretty much slotted him as a pitcher now...which is amazing. He was recruited as a postition player & started in right (made ACC all-tournament as a Freshman). The kid can fly. Around 6.3 in the 60.

But they both understand that DJ's ticket to 'Play For Pay' is on the hill. Smoke...legit mid-90's. And he didn't pitch all that much growing up & in high school, so his arm is fresh. Huge upside I believe. Look for him to take the plunge after this season (his Junior as stated above).

His dad and grandpa are great people. They have always been close with my family and I.I have known DJ since he was about 10 or so. His Grandpa is a baseball fanatic. you can usually find him at any local baseball tournament.

You don't have to 'find' Grandpa...He finds you. You can hear him encouraging his team & working the umpires from the parking lot!

even though dj was always on the other side of the field (except in state games) he is a class act, and enjoyable to watch play the game. dad is a great guy, but granpa..... he has to be my all-time favorite fan. always pulling for his team, NEVER heard him say anything against the other players. matter of fact have heard him several times applauding an opponents play. tried to hire him to come be our fan after dj graduated:laugh4: . instead he decided to travel a bunch to clemson for some reason.
