Charlotte Observer coverage....

Hello, I'm Cliff Mehrtens (Charlotte Observer)...I pretty much handle the baseball stuff in the spring.

We launched the Sweet 16 poll in today's paper.

Next week, I plan to launch our first set of prep baseball leaders (average, HRs, RBIs, wins, K's, etc).

The best way to get your team noticed/recognized is for coaches to call in their scores, and send me their stats. With so many schools in our coverage area, it's hard to know if a team is 5-1 or 4-1 if they don't send results.

Many, many coaches already are diligent about calling, which I appreciate. It is a battle every spring for space for high school baseball - with six other spring sports going on, ACC basketball tournament here, NCAA regionals here, Bobcats, NASCAR, Panthers, etc.

Send me good, compelling stories that I can turn into feature stories. It can't be "Johnny's hitting .500 with two homers," because there are a dozen players like that.

Thanks Cliff,,, and I'm sure you get all kinds of opinions that you have to sort through, but if I may,,, and trust me I'm completely neutral on these 2 teams,,, but I don't know how or who votes on your Sweet 16, if its based on record alone or just number of folks who call in about certain teams,,,,,,,,, but if you want to win some lunch money around your office, just remember 2 teams that got left off. East Rowan and Mooresville of the NPC3A conference.

I will buy your lunch if both East and Mooresville aren't still playing playoff games long after a few other teams that were mentioned are all packed up and gone. First big game of NPC this year has East against Mooresville this Friday.

 

Welcome aboard Cliff. You will find this is the most plugged in site in regards to HS baseball. I hope you will become an active member. You will find everybody from HS coaches, players, parents to ML Scouts frequenting this site. A lot of good discussions without the trashtalking you may find at other places.

 

Sorry Cliff, but I second Braves in welcoming you to TBR. I realize you guys have a TON of teams to cover with the Observer, and appreciate what your trying to do.
