    PCC 1, Elon University 0 (D1)

The Bulldogs, who are playing a series of exhibition games this fall in preparation for the 2010 season, broke open a scoreless game with the Phoenix in the sixth inning of Saturday’s first contest en route to a 1-0 victory.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Tiffany Frey singled up the middle to start the Pitt attack. She took second on a passed ball and came home when Bri Richie doubled to right field.

Freshman pitcher Charity Watson made sure the one-run lead held up for the Bulldogs. The righty from Washington, N.C., struck out two in the seventh before getting a fly out to end the game.

Watson started and tossed a complete game, striking out 10 and walking one to earn the victory.

    Not too bad!

When Charity was 15/16 she was one of the premier pitchers in NC. I didn't hear much about her after that...great to hear she is pitching in college and doing well. PCC will be a force with her on the mound.

....I agree with you ChaCha. Good to hear some news about CW. Does Junior Bailey still coach at PCC?

I believe he is still the coach at PCC, but I am not positive.

....either way, Coach Bailey is good for the game.

    PCC & Charity Watson

Junior is both the softball coach and AD at PCC. Charity Watson pitched against ECU last evening. I think ECU won the two games with scores of 11-0 and 18-0 (not exactly sure of the scores). The PCC hitters really had little chance vs ECU's Toni Paisley. Charity looked OK; threw hard but really needs to develop better break and an effective change. That said I suspect she will be very effective in the JC ranks. If she develops she certainly has the arm to be a D1 pitcher down the road.

I was at ECU game and have never seen an umpire squeeze Charity like that before in all my years of watching and coaching her. The "umpire" walked several ecu batters. Other than that ecu was only able to muster two bloop hits off of Charity. She'll be ok.
