I have a pretty good story for you guys along this line.

In 2003 my son was fortunate enough to be selected to particapate in the East Coast Professional Baseball Showcase. After the first day workout his team was to play in a 5:00 game. He was the starting catcher for that game and his battery mate was to be Nick Adenhart. It was a typical early August day (really hot and muggy with thunderstorms around the area). The first pitch from Adenhart's hand was 96 mph on the radar guns that were displayed to the spectators. The first inning was uneventful as the offensive team went down 1-2-3. By the top of the second inning there was a T-storm brewing behind the stands and the skies were nearly as black as night. When the wind picked up it was decided to drop the batter's eye in centerfield (basicly a large, dark curtain)for fear the wind would damage it. Beyond the batter's eye was a grove of pine trees with holes in them which allowed the setting sun to shine thru. The first pitch of the inning, another 96 mph fast ball about head high to my son, completely eluded him and hit the umpire dead solid in the chest protector knocking him back several steps. While the trainers rushed to his aid, my embarrassed son went to the mound, as all good catchers do, to give the ump some time to collect himself. When he returned to the plate he apologized profusely to the ump explaining that Adenhart's release point was directly in one of the holes in the trees and he had been unable to pick up the ball until it was too late. The umpire smiled at him and said, " That's ok, I didn't see it either."
