what i can't believe is that the mom calls it a mistake.

that's not a mistake -- that's a bad CHOICE. a mistake would be if he were aiming for his knees and accidentally hit his head. but he made the choice to hit him in the knees and head. apparently. allegedly.

keep in mind the kid is 13, so a mistake by a 13 year-old is not the same as a mistake by an adult.

from what i've heard (the radio shows down here have covered it pretty extensively) there was some teasing and stuff and the kid hit him at least 3 times -- knee, shoulder, head. a guy who was there and saw it said the kid was imediately freaked out by it and knew he'd done something really bad.

    Stupid

I have been a part of baseball for over 55 years and I find it a disgrace to the game that this would happen. Not only should something happen to the child, his parents should be charged with some type of crime. That is rediculous and parents should have the common since to tell there kids that what they see on TV isnt everyday life. Im not blaming the current fights in the pros on this but I am blaming the parents of these children and every adult that doesnt find this event absolutely absurd.

the parents? what should happen to them? jail time?

i'm not sure what you do with this kid. there's a certain aspect of punishment that needs to be meted out, but then does incarceration just ruin another life as well? i mean, does becoming an adult behind bars really turn somebody into anything but a bigger problem later? maybe there are appropriate places for kids like this. or if there aren't, then there should be.

I think I might agree with you there...Like the one guy said, maybe the kid didn't mean to kill the other kid. Not to say that hitting him or touching him in any way is correct, but the damage he did probably was not what he intended. Maybe putting him in jail for a long time will do nothing but distort his view of the world, and screw up something inside him. There has to be places for kids like this, but it's not like the kid is chemically imbalanced and is going to turn into a serial killer, he was kind of defending himself.

Like I said, this whole sitation is insane. When I said I couldn't even imagine that EVER happening, I meant it's hard for me to believe it actually did happen. I couldn't see myself back at the age of 13-15 beating a kids brains in, let alone hitting him for any kind of reason that revolves around picking on me. It's scary to believe young kids are doing this to eachother.

Only when we our society quits making excuses for violent behavior will things start to improve....everyone is going to stand up and defend this young boy from here to doomsday....my question: who is going to stand up for the victim???
