Not exactly sure how it happened but it did. Was rather odd so figured I would ask the all knowing TBR folks... :)

Pitcher pitched the ball. Slapper was out of the box in foul territory and got hit in the foot by the ball. Is it a hit batter or just a ball? Would it make a difference if she was out of the box and in fair territory?

Ump said it was just a ball since she was out of the box.

According to the NFHS rulebook, if the ball hits the batter in fair terrority and is out of the box, the batter is out, now if the batter is hit by a pitch in the box, she is awarded 1st base, now if the batter is hit by a pitch out of the box, the pitch is call a ball, and the runner is not awarded 1st base, has to be in the box!! So, the ump was correct.
