Sounds like the Nash kids are doing well while lacking a couple of kids who are playing Jr. Legion only now. I hope they win it. The RM jr. legion team was the first to advance to the state championship tourney from the east yesterday.

Well, the tourney is over and congratulations to Greenville who won the tournment with a 3-2 victory over Nash County in the Championship game. They will advance to the Southeastern Regional in Fla to represent Eastern NC next week.

    Good luck guys.

Braves, we managed to keep Diesel1 Jr. in the park today - it was the first game of the tourney that he did not go deep, of course we had to give him a couple of free passes.

One, the remainder were public school kids.

Faith Chrisitan placed several kids on the 13 year old and 14 year old all star teams. RMA did not field any summer teams this year.

Was a good Championship series... with numerous games won in the 7th inning (most by Lumber River)

I picked Nash and Greenville in the final and was right. The two best teams, for sure. Although, Lumber River made a strong run, Nash calmly and quietly put them away...

As much excitement in the stands as there was on the field on some days... lol.. especially the Lumber River, Nash matchup :laugh2: FCP Jr is a scrappy shortstop and had to bowl over a catcher that had at least 50 pounds on him during that game and THAT didn't seem to sit well with the fans... however... it was a legit play. Interesting time in the stands at that point and thereafter, to say the least!

Greenville starts back with practice today and heads to the Regional next Wednesday. The 13u team also won the state and heads to Live Oak FL next Wednesday as well. The 14's came oh so close, but just couldn't finish it out against a decidedly larger Lumberton / Border Belt team.

Throw in softball and Little League and Greenville has had a good run this summer on District and State Championships and Regionals!

    Head Start

Since Eastern, NC is my recruiting area, reckon I'll have to get a head start and begin to "court" some of these youngsters!

Diesel, the Pembroke/Lumber River crowd is always an interesting bunch. They are our arch rivals. Basically fine folks but they do love their baseball and will always have a bit of a chip on their shoulders. Once they think they are getting the short end of anything, they can be a rowdy bunch. Also, its a good idea to just walk away from them if things get heated. Fighting is a way of life down there.

Diesel - Lumberton and Pembroke have a long history of baseball rivalry (Dixie Youth, Babe Ruth and HS). Ten years ago, Pembroke had the upper hand winning most of the district championships and several state titles. About then, me and couple other folks started a youth baseball league in Lumberton and our league has pretty much supplanted the Pembroke league as the premier team in our districts. In 2005, Purnell Swett had one of their best teams ever but it happened to be the same year Lumberton won 27 games and lost to Conely in the Eastern Finals. Swett lost six games all year and four of them were to Lumberton. I don't think they have beaten us since. Needless to say, we Lumberton folks are rather enjoying the last few years.
