Can someone quickly go over the asa rules for how many hitters can you use in the line-up and/or how it's used?

Per rules for championship play, there are no "extra hitters." The only thing you can do is DP/FLEX, which allows you to have a defensive player who doesn't bat.

Many "friendly" or "invitational" ASA tournaments allow 1 or 2 Extra Players (EP) in the line up. These are players who are "in the game" and may be freely substituted into defensive posititions without re-entry rearing its ugly head. This allows you to bat 10 or 11. If one of these players leave the game (injury, etc) without a substitute, then the automatic out comes into effect.

Does that cover your question? If not, could you be more specific?
